Pat, I believe the rule states the time stops 10 seconds after lose of
sight of the model. Timer needs to be on his toes when that situation
arises.

And likely if its gone for a whole 10 seconds, its gone for good, at that
kind of altitude, the model is or can be moving really fast and our eyes can't
refocus on a pin point....so our models can be a long way away from the spot
we last saw it in just 2 seconds. Look how far F3B models travel during a
speed run, and that's not a flat out dive.
I had long enough to say "I lost it!" Tony was watching and he said "I got
it, its just to the right of the cloud!"
I saw it just about immediately....but really freaked me out.
This kind of ties into a couple of years back where that Cataract developed
in my right eye. For the two months it took to develop I began losing depth
first, then distance in that eye.
I got totally paranoid about losing my sailplane during that period to the
point where'd I wake up in my motel bed shouting, "I can't see my
sailplane!!!!" and the hooker would say, "Oh your that guy that fly's model airplanes."
:-)
I guess since that time I got pretty sensitive to that happening :-(
