For those of you guys who don't know about our club 'elf'. Little Lee is 10
years old, has flown the Nats, and three other contests already..and crushed
some pretty good 2m pilots in a few rounds...including Ed Wilson.

He is also the 2006 LSF "Spirit of Soaring" award recipient! And frankly he
has 'earned' everything he's been given! Raised grades, good to mom, and a
great attitude at the field. He's right there playing retriever master while
waiting for Ed to get his plane ready to fly. He keeps me in the air!
Eat your hearts out guys!

I think Barnes is building him a new DLG, Kiesling is buiding him a bagged
Supra, Drela is designing a new ship just for him, supposed to be like 10ozs
at 130". Sal is debating on sending clevis' or pushrod ends :-)

Our club has sort of 'adopted' Lee, and he is the apple of our eye. Below
is an update of what we have done with donations and gifts from various
Modelers around the country. Still in the closet is a Vandal molded unlimited ship
and $300 contest expense money donated by John Bitzer and a set of 6 Hitec
metal gear servos from John's and my good friend (and excellent pilot) Chuck
Robinet.
Gordy

This from Ed:
At our club meeting this past Sunday we presented to Lee a plane,
radio, servos, radio case, and plane bag. See attached picture. I
assembled the plane and set everything up and have it ready to fly. The
first flight pictures will follow when we have a weather break and can
put it into the air.
The plane and Jim Bag were purchased with money from "I beat Gordy"
buttons. Wing servos were purchased with an individual cash donation.
The radio, a 9303, was an individual donation and completes the plane
with all JR for electronics. The JR TX carrying case was a donation from
the local hobby shop "Scale Reproductions".
Lee was mostly speechless at the time but later he had to assemble
the plane at home to show all his neighbors. Since then I have heard he
took a copy of this picture to school to show his teachers.
We have no worry about Lees ability to fly this plane. Gordy, at our
last flying session, gave Lee some instructions and then turned Lee
loose with one of his Supras. No bobbles or problems and even got a
landing. Just like the simulator was all Lee told me later. With some
seasoning we may all be watching a future "Master".
I thank everyone for the donations. I hope as the contest season
rolls around you get a chance to meet and talk to Lee. You will find a
modest, energetic, young man who is building not only skills but
friendships. You as adults and modelers are setting the molds that this
young man will emulate as an adult. In the absence of a father you have
become his male model. My hope is he will pass onto others what he is
learning from modelers like yourself.

Thanks again
Edwin Wilson
