Well now.....y'all make me blush. Gordy is certainly in part correct. It
does take practice and practice unless of course you like consistently
finishing in the lower half. I don't think for a moment I will be beating the A
players anytime soon but I plan to come in respectable. I have three main
objectives this year.
1) Making certain each plane is ready to fly each time I arrive at the
field. I'll do my checks at home to see if repairs or major makeovers are
required and take of them there as needed. Once at the field a simple check to
ensure all clevis are intact and so on.
2) Know my ships, know their capabilities and limitations. Where 10+ winds
used to freak me now I say bring it on as it creates just another unique
style flying characteristics. In fact I need more windy practice days so when the
wind is up at contest I am not at the bottom.
3) Pay attention to my surroundings for signs of activity. To understand
why the successful pilot wins and why the unsuccessful pilot does not. Never
be afraid to extend myself. If I can do it once I likely can do it again.

Okay 4

Why a talking timer (Gordy or Ben or Ed) can be instrumental to your success
I find that many times, i.e Orlando I did just fine with just a stop watch.
In other words I plan to be less dependent on ground control from others and
besides since we will be flying primarily out of the same group you couldn't
time for me anyway.

Lastly, a well know pilot recently said to me "When you fly plane, fly in
front of your plane" and this clicked right away for me. The folks I work
provide safety driver training and one thing they instill in you is to scan the
horizon looking for activity. They tell us to look 15 seconds out when
driving. So this piece advice on flying just clicked. It made perfect sense.
Don't just fly the plane but predict what it may do when it gets there and you
might find you do not want to go there at all.

Still learning

Good Luck
