Just got back from Hollywoodland, the movie about Superman's actor who
either killed himself or was killed by his keeper's rich husband. Still not
sure....but one thing I am sure about is the mistakes 4 of us made in that last
round....

The smart play was to cover each other, I was in the lead and would have had
to make a pretty good boo boo to lose it, the air had been in front for the
last round, and so everyone headed out that way....well everyone but Marc G.

I went up last in the group I think and ....lucked into a dead winch
battery, so instead of killing the group with a Perfect launch, I ended up about
100' lower when we all got out front. Not a big deal if we found lift.

But listen to these clear ques that we all missed.

*Ben launched second I think and he exclaimed, "That was the best launch I
ever got with this plane!"
*The wind had suddenly picked up just as we launched.
*The lift in the group prior was clearly out in front.

Everything indicated to run back down wind....
Today Bruce and I were discussing it, and he popped up with the same things
I came up with, especially Ben's exclamation about a 'best launch". What
causes a 'best' launch from a guy who normally launches well? A thermal.

Marc saw the wind cue but his main reason for heading back was "nothing to
lose" he was well back on the board, only just having snuck up into the final
group by switching some of the score cards, er I mean because some one had
really put the hurt on the other pilots so that left Marc to move up...and the
fact that he was flying his Insanity and knew he had the legs to travel wayyyy
back if needed, and he needed from what he told me.

We may never know the truth about George Reeves, but we do know why things
ended up as they did at the end of a fantastic soaring contest.
